Virginia resident Anita Ambler was convicted today of charges related to more than $1.3 million embezzled from Mountaineer Race Track and Casino, where she worked as a bookkeeper, U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld II announced.
Ms. Ambler, 49, of Reva, was found guilty of 11 counts of mail fraud, 10 counts of wire fraud and four counts of transacting in criminal proceeds, according to Mr. Ihlenfeld, the top federal prosecutor for Northern West Virginia.
His office said in a press release that from 2005 through 2010, Ms. Ambler embezzled funds from a Horsemen's Association account maintained by Mountaineer, which is in Chester, W.Va.
Ms. Ambler's date of sentencing wasn't available late Friday. In addition to possible prison time, she must forfeit real estate located in Virginia and a Dodge Nitro, both of which were assets that she purchased with proceeds from her scheme, according to the release.
