Mt. Lebanon’s Frank Cappelli is ready to introduce his 1989-92 children’s TV series to a new generation.
The 65-episode “Cappelli & Company,” which aired in reruns on WTAE until 2001, will return to local TV on low-power station WBGN, Channel 59, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays through Fridays starting Tuesday.
Mr. Cappelli, who co-owned the series with WTAE’s parent company, Hearst Television, began working in 2006 to get the rights to distribute the show so he could find a new home for it. That happened late last year.
Mr. Cappelli, 61, starred in the series, which featured music, how-to segments and a studio audience of children ages 3-7. The show was syndicated in other local TV markets and ran on Nickelodeon in 1993 and 1994.
Mr. Cappelli still gets recognized from the program. “Everywhere I go people remember the show,” he said. “Kids are still kids, the material is still the same. Maybe there is an audience and a much bigger audience because of the Internet.”
In addition to airing on WBGN, Mr. Cappelli is about to launch a website, www.cappelliandcompany.com, where visitors can buy episodes of the series as well as music from the program and from his children’s albums with A&M records (Mr. Cappelli also struck a deal with the record company for his music), including a song about Pirate Hall-of-Famer Roberto Clemente.
Songs cost 80 cents, episodes of the show can be downloaded for $11.99, “How-to” videos cost $3.25, music videos sell for $5.99 (except the Clemente video, which goes for $12, with some proceeds earmarked for charity) and sheet music will cost $2.50.
