The national tour of “Kinky Boots” is set to open Sept. 4 in Las Vegas and then head out to all points West Coast before making its way east. But when will it kick up its heels in our town? Pittsburgh CLO, a co-producer of the Tony-winning musical and “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” is in negotiations to bring both shows to town during its summer 2015 season.
The tour had its press day in New York Wednesday, and choreographer Jerry Mitchell tweeted an image with “Kinky Boots’ ” original stars — Pittsburgh’s Billy Porter and Stark Sands — and tour headliners Kyle Taylor Parker as high-heeled Lola and Steven Booth as shoe-factory owner Charlie Price. Mr. Porter continues on Broadway as Lola, the role that earned him a Tony as best actor in a musical.
The actor-writer’s autobiographical play, “While I Yet Live,” about growing up in Pittsburgh among strong women, will have its world premiere Oct. 12 at Primary Stages in New York. “While I Yet Live” opens in previews Sept. 23 with Tony Award winner Lillias White and Emmy winner S. Epatha Merkerson.
