Former WXDX-FM morning host Alan Cox has a new job in a new town.

Cox, a Chicago native, returns to his hometown to host a morning show on alternative rock station WKQX-FM (Q101), starting Sept. 18.

The show will be a kind of radio version of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," according to the Chicago Sun-Times, driven by current events, pop culture and comedy.

Head writer for the show is former "Saturday Night Live" writer and Second City actor Michael McCarthy.

Cox was afternoon drive and later morning host on WXDX, where he had worked since 1999. He was let go in June when the station hired Tim Benz to host a sports-oriented morning show.
