WORD-FM (101.5) talk host Jerry Bowyer is on indefinite medical leave from his daily 3 to 6 p.m. talk show.
Bowyer suffered chest pain after cross-country skiing a few weeks ago. It wasn't a heart attack, his wife Susan Bowyer said, but Bowyer is still undergoing tests.
His return to the air is open-ended. "We don't know," said WORD general manager Chuck Gratner. "We hope he's going to have a full and wonderful recovery and return soon." The station is using fill-in hosts in the interim.
On his Web site, Bowyer posted a message to listeners in which he cited ongoing stress-related illness and the need to scale back. The station added a link to its Web site (wordfm.com/afternoonshow), where listeners can write or e-mail get-well wishes to Bowyer.
