'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' captures Indie Spirit Award

And the Film Independent Spirit Award for best first feature goes to ... Pittsburgh native Stephen Chbosky for "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."

Mr. Chbosky, who adapted and directed the movie based on his novel, emerged from a field that included "Fill the Void," "Safety Not Guaranteed," "Sound of My Voice" and "Gimme the Loot." He was honored today at the awards show held in a beachside tent in Santa Monica, Calif.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" was set and filmed in Pittsburgh.

"Silver Linings Playbook" was the big winner of the day. It was crowned best feature, David O. Russell won for his directing and screenplay, and Jennifer Lawrence was named best actress.
