The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Rated: PG-13.

Suitable for: 9- or 10-year-olds and up.

What you should know: This is the second Spider-Man movie starring Andrew Garfield in the title role. It's 140 minutes long and is being shown in 2-D, 3-D and IMAX.

Language: Very little, just one stronger use of "darn" and one of "heck."

Sexual situations and nudity: A few kisses between teenagers.

Violence/scary situations: Lots, especially the scary transformation and deaths of some key characters. There are fights, an exchange of gunfire and the use of a Taser, a deadly plane crash and another near-collision, dangerous driving that flips or crushes cars, people in peril, torture of a prisoner, a man who essentially shoots lightning bolts from his body, widespread blackout, a fatal fall, a graveside service and tearful visits to a cemetery.

Drug or alcohol use: Brief scenes show a troubled young man drinking alcohol or pouring himself a drink.
