Orion Strings return
Monday, October 20, 2003 By Andrew Druckenbrod, Post-Gazette Classical Music Critic
.
The Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society opens its season tonight at Carnegie Music Hall with recapitulations in music and personnel. Mozart handles the former; the latter is the return of the Orion String Quartet after its terrific performance of Beethoven's complete string quartets in April 2002. Joined by Randolph Kelly, Pittsburgh Symphony principal violist, the Orion (left to right, Timothy Eddy, Daniel Phillips, Steven Tenenbom, Todd Phillips) performs Mozart's String Quintet in C minor, then plays Harbison's String Quartet No. 4 and Sibelius' String Quartet, "Voces Intimae." Prior to the performance is a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. with Jim Cunningham and the musicians, and a recital at 7:30 p.m. by pianist Eun-Suk Jung (co-sponsored by Pittsburgh Concert Society) in the Grand Foyer at 7:30 p.m. Carnegie Music Hall, Oakland. $15-$30; 412-624-4129.
