You're invited to the birthday bash

Tuesday, September 17, 2002

T. rex's 100th birthday bash will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the dinosaur's home at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Oakland. Activities are free with museum admission.

There'll be cake, of course, along with juice, at a 3 p.m. party in the Brown Bag Lunchroom -- after everybody sings "Happy Birthday."

While supplies last, children will get free party bags filled with surprises such as limited edition dinosaur trading cards, tattoos and finger puppets, as well as free T. rex anniversary posters.

Other highlights include Margaret Hooton leading families in dinosaur songs and "The rex-Files" light and sound shows.

The rex-travaganza continues on Sunday, when admission to the museum (and the neighboring art museum) is free as part of the RADical Weekend celebrating the groups in the Allegheny Regional Asset District.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays (until 9 p.m. Thursdays) and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission usually is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, children ages 3-18 and full-time students with ID, and free to children under age 3 and Carnegie members.

For more information, call 412-622-3131 or visit the Web site http://www.CarnegieMuseums.org/cmnh.
