PG gets second in best known feature writing award

PITTSBURGH, June 27, 2005 – The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is pleased to announce a second place win for the Feature section in the General Excellence Category, Class IV of the prestigious Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Program. This competition, formerly known as the Penney-Missouri, is the oldest and best-known feature writing and editing competition in America.

The Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Program awarded the PG with the second highest place in the five-circulation category competition. This included sample entries of the PG Magazine section from two designated weeks plus a “wild card” entry. The Virginian-Plot in Norfolk finished first and the Kansas City Star finished third.

During the same competition, the PG’s “Hepatitis Outbreak” coverage was a finalist in the Food & Nutrition category. Hepatitis stories submitted included the work of nine writers, Chris Snowbeck and Lillian Thomas were chief among them. Other PG contributors included the works of Suzanne Martinson, Cindi Lash, Diana Nelson Jones, Dennis Roddy, Dan Fitzpatrick, Tim McNulty and Anita Srikamesaran.
