PITTSBURGH, May 31, 2007 - The
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette announced today that, effective June 1, 2007, Diana
Block will become co-publisher of the Post-Gazette and The Blade of Toledo,
Ohio. She will continue as general manager for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and
will work with Co-Publisher and Editor-in-Chief John Robinson Block to create
products that fit the market’s changing needs.
David Beihoff will remain president of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and vice president of newspapers for Block Communications, Inc., the parent company of the Post-Gazette and The Blade. Joseph Zerbey will continue as vice president and general manager of The Blade.
Chairman of Block Communications, Inc., Allan Block, said he was glad to see Ms. Block’s contributions to the newspaper grow. “Diana represents the fourth generation of our family in the business, and she brings a younger perspective and new ideas to the table. In her role as co-publisher, I expect her to continue to find creative new revenue streams,” Mr. Block said.
Diana Block is a great-granddaughter of Paul Block, who first published the Post-Gazette in 1927. She holds master’s degrees in English from the University of Virginia and business administration from Carnegie Mellon University and received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University. At the Post-Gazette, she has been vice president of operations, systems director, and a reporter, in addition to her current role as vice president and general manager. Block serves on the boards of the United Way of Allegheny County, the Pennsylvania Economy League, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Heartwood Institute.
