Block Communications promotes David Beihoff

PITTSBURGH, October 23, 2003 – Block Communications, Inc., the parent company of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Blade in Toledo, Ohio has named David Beihoff vice president of newspaper operations for Block Communications and president of the Post-Gazette, effective immediately. For the past four years, Beihoff has served as vice president and general manager of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. In these newly created positions, he will be responsible for advising the two newspapers on strategic planning, operations and market positioning.

Beihoff, a 30-year veteran of the newspaper business, has worked for Block Communications for nearly 10 years. In 1994, he became the Post-Gazette's director of advertising, was promoted to general manager of The Blade in 1995 and came back to Pittsburgh in 1999 to serve as vice president and general manager for the Post-Gazette. During his time as general manager, the Post-Gazette’s readership has remained strong, with more than one million readers every week. In addition, the paper has moved forward with a plan to significantly enhance its production capabilities and convert to a 50-inch web in 2004.

"I’d like to see both papers continue to grow and maintain themselves as quality newspapers that meet the needs of readers and advertisers," Beihoff said when asked about his goals.
