Pitt coach Jamie Dixon is making a change to his coaching staff, and the person he is hiring is a familiar name to Panthers fans.
Sources confirmed Thursday night that Barry "Slice" Rohrssen will rejoin Dixon's staff as an assistant coach, replacing Pat Sandle, an original member of Dixon's staff who spent the past decade with the program.
Rohrssen was a member of Pitt's staff from 2001-06, serving under Dixon and Ben Howland. He was Dixon's associate head coach from 2004-06 before accepting the head coaching job at Manhattan. Rohrssen was employed last season by the Portland Trailblazers.
Rohrssen is known as an ace recruiter and has extensive ties to the high school and AAU scene in his native New York, but his role in his second go-round on the staff is not yet defined. Bill Barton and Brandin Knight, Dixon's top two recruiters, remain on staff. Under NCAA rules, only two assistants will be allowed on the road to recruit high school players.
