Pitt announced Monday that women's basketball coach Agnus Berenato would not return next season.
Berenato compiled a 161-149 record in 10 seasons with the Panthers, but the team has gone winless in Big East play over the past two seasons. Pitt ended its tenure in the Big East with a 36-game regular season conference losing streak.
The Panthers finished the 2012-13 season with a 9-21 record overall and 0-16 in Big East play. In 2011-12, they were 8-22 and again 0-16 in conference action.
"We have high aspirations for Pitt women's basketball and have witnessed the program achieving at impressive levels in the past," Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson said in a statement. "As we begin ACC play next season, the time is right for a leadership change in the program."
Berenato was hired in 2003 and guided the Panthers to three NCAA tournament appearances in a row from 2007-09, including two Sweet 16 berths.
