LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- No. 12 Louisville beat Pitt, 64-61, in a Big East Conference game tonight at the KFC Yum! Center.

Pitt (17-5, 5-4) had its four-game winning streak snapped and has lost the past five games against Louisville (17-4, 5-3), which had lost three consecutive games.

Russ Smith scored 18 to pace the Cardinals.

Pitt trailed 32-26 at halftime. Louisville quickly got the lead to 11 early in the second half, but Pitt slowly chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to three on three occasions in the final six minutes.

Lamar Patterson made it 58-55 with 1:16 left. Pitt then forced Russ Smith into a bad shot. Woodall rebounded and was fouled.

Tray Woodall missed the free throw. Missed free throws were a huge problem for Pitt in the game. The Panthers were 3 for 12 from the line.

After Woodall's miss, Chane Behanan made two free throws at the other end for a five-point lead. Woodall made a 3-pointer to make it 60-58.

Pitt fouled 6-11 center Gorgui Dineg, who made both free throws to put the game away.

Turnovers plagued the Panthers in the first half. Louisville forced Pitt into 11 and scored 11 points off those miscues.

The Panthers also had a hard time matching up inside with the Cardinals, who grabbed 12 offensive rebounds in the first half and scored 20 points in the lane.

The mistakes led to a big early deficit. Pitt was down 30-18 after Tim Henderson made a 3-pointer with 4:47 remaining, but the Panthers finished the half on an 8-2 run to trail 32-26 at the intermission.

Steven Adams kept the Panthers within striking distance with six first-half points, all in the final 6:48 of the half, including an offensive rebound and put-back with four seconds left.

Smith led Louisville with 13 points in the half.
