Penguins' Wregget Out Indefinitely
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Ken
Wregget, expected to split time with Tom Barrasso this
season, will be out indefinitely with a herniated disk in
his back.
The injury is similar to that endured by Mario Lemieux
in the later years of his career.
The Penguins may get a better idea of how long Wregget
will be sidelined when he is evaluated again in two
weeks. Wregget, who was pulled midway through a 5-2 loss
Wednesday to Dallas, is 1-3-1 with a 2.86 goals-against
average in six games.
Wregget's injury means Barrasso will continue to be
backed up by rookie Peter Skudra, who held Detroit to one
goal in a 1-1 tie Friday in his first NHL start.
Patrick Lalime, who began his career with a 16-game
unbeaten streak when Wregget and Barrasso were injured
last season, remains unsigned.
The Penguins, who have two ties and a loss in their
last three games, play the Washington Capitals at home
Wednesday.
