INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Rob Brown scored the
game-winning goal and Tom Barrasso made 23 saves for his
fourth consecutive road victory as the Pittsburgh
Penguins defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 Tuesday
night.
Barrasso lost his bid for a fourth straight shutout
win when Vladimir Tsyplakov scored the Kings' lone goal
in the second period. It was the first goal Barrasso had
allowed in his last 218 minutes on the road.
Stephane Fiset stopped 24 shots in the Kings' fourth
consecutive loss.
Pittsburgh, which has won eight of its last nine
games, got the first six power-play chances of the game
and scored on two of them.
The Kings, who entered the game as the third-most
penalized team in the NHL, didn't have a power play
opportunity until referee Paul Stewart whistled two
against the Penguins in the final 10 minutes of the third
period.
Stu Barnes scored his eighth goal of the season at
18:32 of the first on the Penguins' fourth power play of
the period. The Kings managed just three shots in the
first.
Brown, the International Hockey League's leading
scorer last season, gave Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead at 6:03 of
the second. He one-timed a shot from the top of the left
circle on the power play for his first goal since Nov. 1.
Jaromir Jagr assisted on both Penguins' goals, giving
him four assists in his last five games.
Tsyplakov made sure the Kings wouldn't be shut out
with his eighth goal at 7:20 of the second. Los Angeles
pulled Fiset for an extra attacker with 45 seconds to
play, but couldn't score despite outshooting Pittsburgh
10-3 in the final period.
Barrasso, second in the NHL in shutouts with four,
made some key saves early in the third period when
consecutive penalties by Barnes and Brown had Los Angeles
buzzing around the goal.
The Kings, who tied the Penguins 3-3 on opening night,
haven't beaten Pittsburgh since Nov. 11, 1995.
