Penguins 6, Canadiens 3
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Robert Lang scored his first two
goals of the season as the Pittsburgh Penguins extended
their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 6-3 victory
Saturday night over the Montreal Canadiens.
In addition to the season-best 6-0-1 streak, the
Penguins also have five consecutive wins. They beat
Montreal on home ice for the first time in nearly two
years, ending the Canadiens' 3-0-3 run in Pittsburgh.
Penguins goalie Tom Barrasso left the game with a
bruised right shoulder at 8:01 of the second period.
Barrasso was hurt making a save on Vincent Damphousse's
shorthanded breakaway. Rookie Peter Skudra finished the
game, making his first appearance since Nov. 12.
Andy Moog, who had allowed just one goal in two games
against the Penguins this season, was lifted after he
gave up four goals on 10 shots through the first 2:31 of
the second period. He allowed two goals on three shots in
the second.
Jocelyn Thibault took over for the Canadiens after
Lang's first goal gave Pittsburgh a 4-1 lead. Stu Barnes
had scored at 1:48 of the second period, converting
Jaromir Jagr's pass on a power play.
Lang scored his second on a power play at 12:43 of the
second when he knocked in Fredrik Olausson's rebound.
Saku Koivu scored a power-play goal for Montreal
between Lang's scores.
Pittsburgh took a 2-0 lead in the first period on
special-teams goals. Kevin Hatcher scored his seventh on
a power play at 7:32, and Martin Straka put in his own
rebound on a shorthanded breakaway at 15:16.
The Penguins were killing Jagr's double minor for high
sticking when Straka scored. Montreal's Turner Stevenson
scored with five seconds left in the second penalty.
Jagr got past defenseman Patrice Brisebois to beat
Thibault at 3:54 of the third. Ron Francis got his third
assist of the night.
Brian Savage scored at 15:12 of the third as the
Penguins were caught in a line change.
The Canadiens, who have the second-best road record in
the NHL at 9-4, completed a 1-2 trip with their second
loss in 48 hours. They lost 2-0 in Detroit on Friday.
