Penguins 3, Hurricanes 2
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Fredrik Olausson and Alex Hicks
scored third-period goals as the Pittsburgh Pengins
extended their unbeaten streak to six games with a 3-2
win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.
The Penguins are 5-0-1 with a season-best four-game
winning streak. They have won all three of their games
against Carolina this season.
Olausson, who set up Pittsburgh's first goal, scored
the tie-breaker at 2:58 of the third period. Robert Lang
carried the puck past two Carolina players and fed a pass
to Olausson.
Olausson, in the middle of the right circle, fired a
quick shot past Sean Burke to end a 12-game goal drought.
Hicks picked off Jeff Brown's pass at 6:46 and used
Lang as a decoy on a 2-on-1 before sliding the puck
through Burke's legs.
Carolina converted its first power-play chance at 6:53
of the first period. Jeff O'Neill was 10 feet inside the
blue line when he fired Brown's pass past Tom Barrasso's
glove for his fifth goal.
The Penguins tied the score with 1:43 left, taking
advantage of Adam Burt's turnover. Olausson intercepted
Burt's pass at the right point and sent the puck to Stu
Barnes, who beat Burke from 15 feet for his sixth.
Nelson Emerson scored Carolina's second goal in the
final second.
Burke had a strong second period, stopping all 17 of
Pittsburgh's shots, including four each by linemates
Barnes and Ron Francis.
The Hurricanes are 1-3-1 in their last five games.
The Penguins had another 5-0-1 streak from Oct. 11-22.
