Mother always said she wanted a dress
The color of the mountains in fall.
Swaths of yellow and amber
Burnt into orange and scarlet,
Grey-black lace beneath it all.
I found her such a dress before she died,
All the colors of the mountains
In folds of sweet caress.
Her ashes are there now
In that rich and simple dress.
